Successful completion of this one year course will enable a fast track route to the second year of an apprenticeship programme in the workplace. So, being a learner on the Enhanced Engineering Programme will increase your appeal to prospective employers looking to recruit apprentices.
This course is for you if...
-
You want to pursue a career in the field of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
-
You would like to progress on to a full apprenticeship in the engineering industry
- You would like a theoretical and practical mix of study
-
You would like to study for a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Engineering
What will I be doing?
This is a practical, work-related course, on which you’ll learn by completing practical projects and written assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations.
This course will be delivered full time over 36 weeks for 30 hours per week on the college campus. As an enhanced programme there will also be a combination of work placement experience and industrial visits. You will be linked to one or more engineering companies for work experience placements that will be for a minimum of 5 weeks and a maximum of 12 weeks.
You will study for a Pearson BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)
The BTEC units include:
Unit 1: Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace (Mandatory)
Unit 2: Communications for Engineering Technicians (Mandatory)
Unit 3: Mathematics for Engineering Technicians (Mandatory)
Optional Units (5) (What 5 would be most useful to your industry?)
Unit 22: Computer-aided Manufacturing (Optional)
Unit 34: Manufacturing Planning (Optional)
Unit 40: Industrial Robot Technology (Optional)
Unit 68: Lean Production System Design
Unit 74: Advanced Composite Materials Manufacturing
Unit 94: Composite Materials and Processing
Unit 108: Industry 4.0
Unit 109: Data Analytics/Big Data
Unit 110: Simulation and Digital Twinning
Unit 111: Cyber Security in Engineering
Unit 112: Additive Manufacturing Processes
Unit 113: Autonomous Systems
You will also undertake the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO).
Mandatory
Unit 201 Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
Unit 202 Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
Unit 203 Using and communicating technical information
Optional
Unit 239 Maintaining and Testing Process Instrumentation and Control Devices
Unit 243 Producing Composite Mouldings using Wet Lay-up Techniques
Unit 244 Producing Composite Mouldings using PrePreg Techniques
Unit 245 Producing Composite Mouldings using Resin Flow Infusion Techniques
Unit 261 Producing CAD Models (Drawings) using a CAD System
The PEO will give you the essential advanced manufacturing engineering workshop skills required for the apprenticeship framework.
Your knowledge and practical competences will be continually assessed. This will consist of internal and external assessments.
Upon successful completion, you’ll achieve:
Pearson BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)
Level 2 NVQ Diploma – 6 units chosen to support specific industry requests
Other relevant qualifications to enhance your skill set
This course will take place at HiVE centre in Ebbw Vale.
What is expected of me?
The Entry Requirements for this course are 5 GCSEs grade C and above including English and Maths with Maths preferably at grade B.
What comes next?
At the end of the course you will have developed the underlying practical skills, knowledge and understanding of advanced manufacturing engineering principles and workshop practices. You will be encouraged to seek apprenticeships within the relevant industry where employment opportunities may include product design, composites, manufacturing, aerospace and automotive engineering.
You can continue to study for another year, on a day release basis, for the Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge). This qualification will allow progression to higher education study – such as BTEC HNC, HND and eventually B.Sc (HONS) in Engineering.
Additional information
You will be given a tool kit worth approximately £200.00 when you successfully complete the course.
