Public Services Research Project

We rely on public and emergency services, not only for major disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes, but also for more local concerns, such as anti-social behaviour in our community. Often, the emergency services work together with other public services to plan for emergencies, like a terrorist attack, or try to solve difficult complex problems.

To make your learning relevant to the workplace, you will be provided with real-life scenario to develop relevant skills, knowledge and application. Examples include studying a local community to produce a community profile, practicing rescue techniques developing leadership and essential skills for the industry.

You will learn through a range of methods, usually a combination of lectures, seminars, practical activities and workshops. At later stages of the course, you’ll have the chance to work on projects, either individually or in groups.

Outside activities are also built into the programme, as well as visiting speakers and project work. There are a variety of assessment methods employed that reflect the industry such as stakeholder analysis, Community Profiles, Case studies, presentations, reflections and essays.
